Custom Designed Cakes  -
Questions & Pricing

H
ow much do your custom designed cakes cost?
Each cake is priced according to the complexity of the design, flavor(s) and time invested into its creation.  The final price is determined by the design  and the number of servings you select.   Please inquire within for pricing.

How far in advance should I order a cake?

We recommend reserving your place on our calendar at least two weeks in advance.   Occasionally, we are able to squeeze in last minute orders, so we always say, it doesn't hurt to ask.  In any event, we will do our best to provide you with a confection that will be complimentary to your special day.   Once your details are finalized, we will send you a cake confirmation by email.  You'll then have a chance to review your cake specs and make any necessary changes/additions at that point.   A non-refundable deposit of $50.00 (minimum) is required to reserve your order,

I would like to order a special occasion cake and would like to know if I could meet with you or a staff member to discuss the design, cosmetics, etc.
Cakes By Tracey is a small but growing operation.  Because of our time constraints in the kitchen, in-person consultations are held only for those who are interested in larger cakes (70 servings and up) and wedding cakes.

If you are ordering a smaller cake, we will do our best to help you with your design and other aspects of the cake, by way of phone or email.

Are there any specific ways to minimize costs without compromising flavor and presentation?

Yes.  W
e offer "granny cakes" that supplement your show piece cake.

Here's an example of how our granny cakes work? If you are anticipating 100 guests, we would offer you a custom designed cake that feeds, say 30.  Now, to make up the remaining servings, we then would offer you our granny cake, which is simply decorated and priced at a lower price, per serving.  Click here for the menu and pricing.

I would like to order a sheet cake?  Is this possible?
We do not offer sheet cakes, as the traditional bakery does.  Our cakes are priced per serving and as mentioned above, the price is determined by the design and flavor(s). To determine what size cake you need, we'll ask you how many guests you are anticipating and then let you know what size cake(s) will meet that demand, typically square or round.  Other shapes may be available upon request.

Do you deliver?
Yes, we deliver, pending availability. Deliver charges are based on mileage and time of day traveling.
Should you decide to pick up your own cake, please keep in mind we do not recommend transporting cakes over two hours, especially if 3D or structural elements are involved. Customers who choose to travel longer distances with cakes do so at their own risk!

I understand most of your cake accessories are made of sugar - like the ones shown here (shoe and lid) . Does this mean they are entirely edible?
Our accessories are hand crafted primarily from sugar mediums, making them edible.  However, we mainly create them for decor purposes.   Once they are created, they are dried and painted accordingly so that they sustain their individual design and structure.  Our paste flowers are also made of sugar, but many of them are built on wires which are NOT edible.  On the other hand, our cakes, which make up the majority of the composition, are whats most pleasing to the eye and palette.

I would like to order a 3D cake.  How will I know how to cut and/or disassemble it?
Both written and visual instructions will accompany your cake and/or your cake confirmation.

Am I limited to ordering only a cake that is listed on your site?
No, you are not limited to ordering only the cakes displayed on our site.  Most of our cakes are made specifically for that special someone our client has in mind.  Feel free to tell us what you'd like to see in your cake.  Tell us your theme, any colors you'd like to see in your cake, any particular decorations, etc.   We'll take it from there.

How does butter cream frosting compare to fondant frosting?
Butter cream still seems to be the frosting of choice.  It has a smooth creamy texture, rich taste and a favorite amongst guests.  However, many love the look of fondant, but has heard that it does not taste as good as butter cream.  Some fondants taste better than others, one of which is ours.

Fondant has a chewy texture, similar to that of a candy corn. It is a sugar dough that is kneaded, rolled to size and then draped and smoothed over a butter cream iced cake as a decorative finish.  Our fondant comes in both vanilla and chocolate flavors.

In our opinion, fondant may be compared to the crust of a pizza, you may choose to enjoy it or leave it as you will still have a generous serving of cake and butter cream to savor.

You have a fondant covered cake displayed on your site and I would like it in butter cream.  Is that possible?
It all depends.  Because of the structure and design, some cakes require that we use fondant.  As each cake varies, we suggest you inquire within and we'll let you know whether or not it's possible.

My friend ordered a book cake which fed 30.  May I order a similar styled cake to feed 45?
Yes.  Our custom cakes can be scaled up or down to accommodate the number of guests you'd like to feed.  On occasion, we do find some cakes require a minimum number of servings to create the structure and design so desired.

I would like to order a cake made in the shape of a licensed character (i.e., Sponge Bob, Dora, Elmo etc.).  May I get this?
We have learned that replicating and selling cakes in the likes of a licensed character and/or trademark. without permission from its company, is a copyright infringement.  To avoid copyright infringement, we design cakes that will tie in nicely with the character in mind.  Our clients generally provide us with a purchased non-edible figurine(s) as we do not stock them. Click below to see examples:

Dora
Little Mermaid
Sesame Street

Hand bags such as
this one may be replicated, however, monograms shown in this picture may not, other monograms may be used in lieu of.

I see you are closed on Sundays.  May I still get a cake for that day?
Yes.  Should you want a cake for an event that is held on a Sunday, you may either pick it up or have it delivered on the Saturday before.  We will provide you with storage instructions and anything else that will pose helpful.  We fully guarantee its quality by the time its served.

Although we have tried to provide as much information as possible on our website, feel free to contact us by phone or email with any additional questions.  We'll be more than glad to answer your inquiries and talk 'cake'.
